It’s unfortunate that the audience must be told to don 3D glasses before they watch “Get A Horse,” as that alone kills the surprise that 3D will somehow come into play during the running time of this cartoon. All things considered, there seems to have been a real effort applied in spite of certain details that the public would not notice. And on that level it works very well, should get a lot of awards and favorable notices. The portion of this short that really sells the idea that this black and white cartoon is something that Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks actually created back in the late 1920s. I still enjoyed the clip I saw but the CGI was kinda obvious. Bear in mind though, even in that one year, change was incredibly fleeting: Mickey had black spatula feet in ‘Plane Crazy’; Pete was a regrettable, drooling Mexican stereotype in ‘Galloping Gaucho’, and Clarabelle was just a naked unnamed cow. Gimmicky, bah. As Mickey, Minnie, and Horace Horsecollar battle Peg Leg Pete, they … Home » Editor In Chief » Jim Hill » Monday Mouse Watch: How the team behind Disney's "Get A Horse!" It was appeared on Youtube in 3-25-14. Directed by Lauren MacMullan. Thank you guys for keeping this art alive. I think it looks fantastic. Get a Horse does very well to make the audience believe that this was a “unfinished” cartoon that has been completed. Made it to the theater last night for Frozen/”Get a Horse”. I guess because the short is such a mega-media sensory blast, it is at root quite different from the feeling watching an old 1928 Mouse cartoon has on me. Thank you, Lauren and co.! blends old black and white 4×3 Mickey Mouse animation with new CG and the voice of Walt Disney as Mickey Mouse. Guests enter a large theater. Hmmn. I want them to get credit for their wonderful work, 2d or cg, year 1928 or year 2013. Anyone who wanted Mickey to look like the 1928 character was just out of luck, it just “wasn’t done”. No one left the theater to complain. is the short film which accompanies Disney's 2013 animated feature Frozen, and is … Shadow of a Mouse ** A Tsum Tsum Stop Motion Short ** Starring Mickey Mouse & Friends. As long as special eyewear must be used to experience the 3D illusion, there seems to be no way around this problem. No of course they couldn’t…they’re too busy producing crap like Frozen(which will suck btw…it pretty much says it’s based on The Snow Queen and changes all of the plot including the character names to make their usually cliche awful CGI Movie), Gone are the good old days when great content was being produced constantly and with such great effort and amazing production values The animators got to play with the world of drawn and Maya, as in one very impressive scene, the characters chase each other through two holes in the screen; when they emerge through the hole on the left and step on the stage they become Maya characters and when they slip through the hole on the right of the screen and re-enter the projected image, they become drawn characters again. Mickey: Whoopee! None of this turned out to be true, Get A Horse! So sometimes the shots had to do double duty, and that made them more complex. The snout was just a small part of why this short does not say “1928” to me. The inspiration for the short was the song the Squirrel Nut Zippers recorded for the show’s main title which was rejected by Peter Schneider. These four cartoons were almost completely the work of one animator, Ub Iwerks, with support from Les Clark, Wilfred Jackson and Johnny Cannon. Directed by Lauren MacMullan, Head of Animation: Eric Goldberg (2D), Adam Green (CG). Well done! For me it had the unavoidable sense of having been refracted through Duck Amuck. Get A Horse! Here’s the link for it, if anyone wants to see it. It is a combination of some of the hallmarks of the Ub Iwerks 1928 world (like the bodies) and the 1933 Mouse of The Mail Pilot era (the faces). 13:36. I submitted an update to IMDB to reflect the correct animator credits. Outside of seeing the film, I don’t think the accurate credits are listed anywhere on the internet. is at its core: a gimmicky, frantic film you’d see on a ride at a theme park. Even the classic Steamboat Willie “Mickey at the wheel” pose has this nose. Mouse, seem to work with his more human self. Bravo to anyone who worked on ‘Get A Horse’… saw it in the UK last night accompanying ‘Frozen’ (also excellent btw, probably the best since the Katzenberg era). What makes Get a Horse! I’m sure a ton of hard work went into the making of “Get A Horse”, you would know that better than anyone. With Walt Disney, Marcellite Garner, Russi Taylor, Billy Bletcher. It was then easy to envision a black-and-white CGI Mickey and Minnie going to a 1920’s New York department store and Minnie being excited to see a Charlie Chaplin doll for sale there. features archival voice recordings of Walt Disney as Mickey Mouse. If you have seen the short, we welcome your opinions in the comments section below. Melindafleenor74. D&D Beyond Post an image of one of those beside your ‘Barn Dance’ heads and let’s take a closer look. Editor’s Note: If anyone knows early-talkie cartoons and rubber hose animation, it’s animator Mark Kausler. (Oswald does make a very brief cameo toward the end of “Get A Horse”, waving to the audience from the wings of the stage.) We did the scratches on the film and went for the rubber hose look, however, I think we came up short…the design was not quite enough like the early 30s cartoons, and quite frankly, there was about 10x more talking in the cartoon than any early Mickey film would have had.
